News Headlines: Sunday 25 February
The family of Mary Alice Pitts Moore, 63, were horrified to hear her decomposed body was found at First Family funeral home in Spartanburg, South Carolina, US, on February 8.
South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation were reportedly tipped off by a former employee that a body had been kept at the premises for an excessive period of time, local television station WSPA reported. The former member of staff claims the body of Ms Pitts, who died of natural causes in March 2015, was kept around scent balms to mask the smell and was not refrigerated.
Spartanburg Coroner Rusty Clevenger said the badly decomposed body was “unrecognisable” and that it took his office two weeks to identify Ms Pitts’ body because “conventional means were not possible.” Coroner Rusty Clevenger said the body was unrecognisable. Source: WSPA
“[The family] are understandably upset at the revelation since her final disposition was to be cremated in 2015,” he said.
